King Charles awards first royal drinks warrants

The first drinks companies to receive prestigious royal warrants from King Charles III have been announced, with Champagne Laurent-Perrier and Laphroaig Scotch whisky securing the coveted status.

Royal warrants are granted for up to five years and are bestowed to companies which are recognised for providing goods or services to the monarchy.

They signifies a brand’s status as a purveyor to the royal household. Warrant holders have permission to display the Royal Arms and the words ‘By Appointment’ on their products, premises, vehicles and advertising materials.

The business practices of each of the companies have also been appraised through the Royal Warrant Sustainability Criteria.

Champagne Laurent-Perrier raises a glass

Champagne Laurent-Perrier, which was formerly awarded a royal warrant by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales in 1998, has now added a royal warrant from King Charles III to its aaccolades.

The announcement makes Laurent-Perrier the only Champagne house to currently bear the Royal Warrant. Nine Champagne houses including Champagne Bollinger and Champagne Krug held Royal Warrants under the reign of Queen Elizabeth.

“We are deeply honoured to be granted the Royal Warrant from His Majesty the King,” said owners Alexandra and Stéphanie de Nonancourt.

“This accolade reaffirms our longstanding relationship with His Majesty which began when he visited Laurent-Perrier with Lord Mountbatten for the ‘United World Colleges’ with our father back in 1979.”

King Charles’ favourite whisky

Suntory Global Spirits brand Laphroaig Scotch whisky, operated today under D. Johnston & Co (Laphroaig) Ltd., also made it onto this year’s list, having been a favourite tipple of King Charles III for many years.

The monarch has visited the distillery three times; in 1994 when he first issued Laphroaig with the Royal Warrant, again in 2008 to celebrate his 60th birthday, and finally in 2015 to celebrate the distillery’s 200-year anniversary.

“We are proud to share that Laphroaig has been granted a new Royal Warrant of Appointment to HM The King. Laphroaig first received its Royal Warrant in 1994, with notable recognition for sustainable best-practices at the distillery,” Suntory said.

“Thirty years later, Laphroaig is continuing to take bold steps forward in its commitment to being a socially and environmentally conscious brand and business.

“The Royal accolade is a testament to our teams and their continued dedication to crafting the iconic Laphroaig Single Malt Whisky – slàinte!”
