Grossi family reopens famed cocktail bar Arlechin

The Grossi family will this week reopen their European cocktail and wine bar Arlechin on Mornane Place in Melbourne’s CBD.

The famed hospitality family behind Grossi Florentino, Grill, Ombra, Cellar Bar and Puttanesca will bring the intimate 40-seat space to life with an old European wine cellar vibe.

The cocktail list will be led by Bar Venue Manager, Russell Branford (Lakehouse Daylesford), with all cocktails made using a premium selection of ingredients and infused in-house using various techniques.

“For me, it’s all about the science and special processes which enhance the appearance and texture of a cocktail whilst maintaining its flavour profile,” he said.

“For instance, we make olio di pomodoro [tomato oil] in house for our Puttanesca Martinez. This involves semi-dehydrating tomatoes until they have a leather texture, then blitzing them with a bit of heat and straining the juice out so you’re left with this beautiful aromatic flavour which is faint in colour.”

There will also be a selection of ‘zhuzhed up’ classics, including a barrel-aged Grossi negroni, Bellini, Paloma and more.

“What I love most about hospitality is the unique way we bond with our team and the special interactions we have with our guests. There aren’t many things better than going out, having a good time and feeling as though you are truly looked after,” Russell said.

Complementary to the drinks list, the food menu draws on Grossi’s Italian roots.

Guy Grossi said: “The beauty of Arlechin is its location and offering. If you’re dining at one of our sibling restaurants and looking for a nightcap to continue your evening it’s just a short walk around the corner. If you’re after a pre-dinner snack, there is a selection of smaller share plates but if you want to stay put, we have plenty of substantial dinner options too.

“Our menu truly embraces the essence of Italian simplicity and sophistication whilst complementing the drinks list.”
