New whisky barrel-finished wine range launches

Old Fat Unicorn has released a new range of Golden Horn whisky barrel-finished red wine.

Showcasing its flagship Barossa reds – a Shiraz and a Cabernet Sauvignon -at least 25% of each wine is finished in ex-whisky barrels, with the aim of achieving an added layer of complexity before bottling.

“This Old Fat Unicorn wine includes portions finished in used whisky barrels giving the wine an interesting flavour twist,” winemaker Brittany John said.

“The old whisky barrels impart nuances of caramel and malt with a hint of aromatic spice, adding another dimension to these rich and textured wines”

The new Golden Horn range pays homage to its Old Fat Unicorn lineage. Its golden embellished horn is complemented by a sleek matte black label and a bottle shape reminiscent of a favourite whisky.

Dan Murphy’s Assistant Category Manager – Red Wine Ricky Young said: “The new-look labels are so unique! Perfect for your next dinner with guests. The wine is expertly crafted with smooth, velvety depth that the ex-whisky barrel ageing provides.”

Golden Horn Whisky Barrel Barossa Shiraz 2022 has a velvety, rich palate, with the ex-whisky barrel finish adding a touch of vanillin flavour.

Golden Horn Whisky Barrel Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 has deep, dark cassis and blackberry flavours, with light maturation in ex-whisky barrels introducing subtle caramel and creamy vanillin oak nuances.

The Golden Horn Whisky Barrel Shiraz 2022 is now available from BWS ($24) and Dan Murphy’s ($18.99). The Golden Horn Whisky Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is now available from Dan Murphy’s ($18.99).
