LARGO Clean Lager, created by Australian band Lime Cordiale, has been named the Country Winner for Light Lager at the 2024 World Beer Awards.
Largo Brewing was launched by brothers and fellow band members Louis and Oli Leimbach in 2023.

“LARGO has a lot of us inside it,” said Louis Leimbach. “While the word Largo in music means ‘slow’, it holds another nostalgic meaning for us too. When we’re not touring, there’s nowhere we’d rather be than surfing ‘til dark. That’s what we did growing up and that’s what we call a Late ARvo Glass Off. What’s better than taking it slow with a beer to top it all off?”
The accolade marks a significant milestone for LARGO, which has set out to disrupt the light lager category with its unique blend of sustainability initiatives and classic Australian brewing.
It’s Australia’s first beer to be accredited by Climate Active, a government body that certifies products that have undergone a process to reduce or offset some of its carbon emissions.
To become Carbon Neutral, Largo Brewing reduced carbon emissions in the brewing process by taking steps like skipping an energy consuming filtration process, using a percentage of unmalted barley to save energy and working with a brewery that has solar panels on the roof and sends leftover grain to local cattle farmers.
The carbon that is still produced from creating Largo Brewing was calculated and offset by purchasing highly credible Australian Carbon Credit Units that are reducing or removing emissions elsewhere. Largo Brewing partnered with Green Collar to invest in a project that is improving biodiversity and contributing to ecosystem regeneration within the Darling River Basin.
“We are incredibly proud to have LARGO recognised on the global stage,” said Oli Leimbach. “Winning the Country Winner award for Light Lager is a testament to our dedication to creating a beer that not only tastes great but also aligns with our commitment to striving for sustainability. We’re thrilled to bring new energy to this category.”

While the LARGO Clean Lager 4.2% ABC won the award for Australia’s best Light Lager at the 2024 World Beer Awards, LARGO also has The Dawdler, a 3.4% ABV Low Carb variant in its portfolio,
LARGO is brewed in Australia under licence for Pinnacle Drinks and is available from Dan Murphys, BWS and Jimmy Brings.
