Sydney craft brewery Atomic Beer is the latest to fall victim to the cost-of-living crisis. After four years in the business, the Redfern brewpub closed its doors on Sunday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we’ll be calling last drinks at our Redfern brewery,” Atomic said.
“It has been an incredible few years, and we cannot express how truly amazing it has been to be part of this community. We’ve had some wild times, and we can’t thank you all enough for being part of the Atomic story.
“It’s been a pleasure Redfern, join us for a final froth and a nod to the good times.”

The Sydney craft brewery was home to the GABS People’s Choice Award Winning “Lemon Whip” beer.

Owner Good Drinks Australia (GDA) announced in April that it had made the strategic decision to sell the Atomic Brewpub, along with the Atomic beer brand.
GDA’s portfolio consists of owned Australian brands Gage Roads, Matso’s, Alby, Rider Zero Carb and Hello Sunshine and international partner brands Millers, Coors, Magners, San Miguel and Rekorderlig.
It has the fourth largest market share in the Australian beer industry, behind Asahi (CUB), Kirin (Lion) and Coopers.
However, in its full-year results the company said: “Atomic Redfern incurred EBITDA losses of $0.5 million. Trading conditions continue to be challenging and combined with high rent, the business is unsustainable. With the sale process unsuccessful and the lease nearing the end of its term, we have taken a decision to vacate the site and discontinue trade to minimise further losses in FY25.
“Plant and equipment will be retained for future use or sale, however conservatively we have impaired the full
carrying amount ($4.5 million) in the FY24 accounts.”
