Lord Howe Island Distilling Co’s Wolfe Rock Navy Strength Gin has taken home the Champion Other Gin title at the Sydney Royal Distilled Spirits Show.

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW announced the recipients of its inaugural Sydney Royal Distilled Spirits Show earlier this week, with 14 champions from across Australia crowned. 

Gin was the competition’s highest entered category, with the judges noting that three stand-outs from regional NSW stole the show.

Joining Lord Howe Distilling on the podium were Yamba Distilling Co, which won Champion Traditional Gin thanks to its Duke – Dry Gin, and the Central Coast’s Pants off Distillery, which claimed Champion Contemporary Gin with its Pants Off Antz Pants Gin.

Sydney Royal Chair of Judges Stuart Gregor (below, right) said: “The inaugural Sydney Royal Distilled Spirits Show was, I think, a great success with the competition receiving more than 270 entries and delivering a wonderfully varied range of winners, with a strong emphasis on regional NSW.”

Co-founders Anthony Riddle and Christian Young (above, left and centre) said: “We are thrilled and honoured to receive this award. We work tirelessly to create spirits that capture the soul of our island, and this recognition from the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW is a testament to that passion.”

Lord Howe Island Distilling Co is located on the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Lord Howe Island. The distillery was established in May 2019 by Riddle and Young, who wanted to celebrate the island’s natural flora through world-class spirits.

Riddle is a sixth-generation Islander and still resides there, while Young has spent 24 summers on the island with his family.

Founded on principles of sustainability and innovation, the distillery produces a range of premium spirits that reflect the island’s rich flora and natural environment. Its distinctive gin and other spirits are crafted from hand-picked endemic ingredients found only on the island.
