Act of Treason has added another award to its trophy shelf, with the Reposado awarded Best Alternative Spirit at the inaugural Sydney Royal Distilled Spirits Show.

The recognition of Top Shelf International’s Australian agave spirit at Sydney Royal adds to its impressive list of accolades in its first year in market, including Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, International Wine & Spirits Competition and the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards as well as Gold and the title of World’s Best Specialty Spirit at the World Drinks
Awards.

Act of Treason Australian Agave is crafted from Agave tequilana – the same plant tequila is made from – grown in the unique conditions of Queensland’s Dry Tropics. With over 500,000 plants in the ground it is one of Australia’s most ambitious spirit projects.

Four Pillars founder and Chair of Judges Stu Gregor said immediately after the award: “That is every bit as good of an
agave [spirit] that you would have from Mexico, no question. It’s a great product.

“Having a crack at a category like Australia agave, Australia didn’t make gin 20 years ago, right? Everyone said gin has to come from England, gin has to be British London Dry, and Australia started making gin and it’s now 50 percent of the

“You [Act of Treason] obviously have some beautiful plants up north and you’ve got some really good distillers as well. You’re making good product from good plants and you’ve got some good barrels with that Reposado.”

Act of Treason Blanco is available nationally in Dan Murphy’s and great independent bottle stores and in more than 150 bars and restaurants in Melbourne, Sydney and Airlie Beach. The Reposado will be hitting premium on-premise venues in the coming weeks.
