Top Shelf International has unveiled the latest addition to its Australian agave spirit portfolio: Act of Treason Extra Aged.
Act of Treason Extra Aged offers a deeper and refined expression in the iconic style of Añejo tequilas. Capturing the familiar backbone of cooked agave, cut grass and lime notes, Extra Aged is layered with vanilla, caramel and oak.
Act of Treason is distilled from 100% Agave tequilana (Blue Weber) plants grown on the Australian Agave Project’s farm
in The Whitsundays. Extra Aged, which has spent time in ex-Australian whisky barrels, benefits from the dynamic influence of the region’s tropical climate, from monsoonal wet seasons to the dry, arid heat. This intense environment shapes the maturation process, resulting in a spirit of depth and complexity that is a product of its unique environment.
The release also marks 12 months since Act of Treason was launched, a year in which it was named the World’s Best Specialty Spirit at the Word Drinks Awards and Australia’s Champion Alternative Spirit at the Sydney Royal Spirits Competition.
Act of Treason capped a highly successful opening year by being named the 6th most innovative global launch of 2024 by The Spirits Business.
“There is no doubt the spirits world has taken notice of Act of Treason in its first year,” said Top Shelf International CEO Trent Fraser.
“Everything we do is inspired by the traditions of tequila but brought to life through Australian ingenuity and unique terroir that our location offers us.
“Our farm is our slice of paradise and we’re relishing in the opportunity of exporting paradise to the world.”
Act of Treason Extra Aged is available now from the brand’s website, actoftreason.com.au.
