Wild Turkey releases limited edition 70th anniversary bourbon

Wild Turkey has launched Jimmy Russell’s 70th Anniversary 8-Year-Old Bourbon in Australia for a limited time and it’s a must-try.

The exclusive release celebrates the Wild Turkey Master Distiller’s 70-year legacy of crafting whiskey. Born and raised in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Russell joined Wild Turkey in 1954 and has immersed himself in the art of bourbon making ever since.

His steadfast philosophy of doing things the traditional way, even when the industry favoured change, has earned him respect worldwide and the title of “Buddha of Bourbon”.

Jimmy Russell’s 70th Anniversary 8-Year-Old Bourbon features his signature 8-year-old, 101-proof bourbon, along with an additional blend of 8- to 9-year-old whiskeys that were hand-selected from a few of his favorite rickhouses.

Drinks Digest was among the first Australians to taste the results during a masterclass at Sydney’s Hinchcliff House this week. The whiskey offers an symphony of flavours, including oak, honey and cinnamon on the nose, with a palate of sweet cream, butterscotch, dark cherry and rich chocolate.

Its balanced, approachable whiskey that will appeal to both whiskey lovers and those newer to the category. And it tasted even more delicious when paired with Hinchcliff House’s homemade butterscotch.

Managing Director of Campari Australia Jacopo Borsa said: “Jimmy Russell’s 70th Anniversary 8-Year-Old Bourbon is a tribute to a true icon in the world of whiskey. At Campari, we are proud to bring this piece of bourbon history to Australia, where our passionate local enthusiasts can celebrate Jimmy’s unmatched craftsmanship.

“This limited-edition release embodies the tradition, passion and flavour that Wild Turkey is renowned for, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share it with bourbon lovers across the country.”

Wild Turkey Jimmy Russell’s 70th Anniversary 8-Year-Old Bourbon is available now for $135 at Dan Murphy’s, BWS, First Choice and selected independent retailers across Australia.
