Newtown welcomes Hecho en Mexico

Newtown is home to a new tacqueria and bar called Hecho en Mexico, serving bold Mexican flavours and mouth-watering margaritas.

Born in Melbourne’s Fitzroy back in 2013, Hecho en Mexico is a local favourite and has since grown into a family of restaurants.

Its newest location in Newtown is an exclusive collaboration with beloved Mexican-Australian chef and “tamale queen” Rosa Cienfuegos.

Rosa is famed for her Tamaleria in Dulwich Hill, which is one of the few places in Sydney making truly authentic Mexican street food. She’s also the author of three best-selling cookbooks.

The drinks menu at the Newtown outpost of the popular restaurant group serves 12 handcrafted margaritas, all made with Cointreau and The Rock’s Teremana tequila.

Drinks Digest went along to the launch party and loved the People’s Margarita, with Teramana Blanco, lime juice, agave, pineapple, fresh lime juice and a Tajin salt rim.

To celebrate the launch of its Newtown restaurant and in partnership with Cointreau and Teremana, Hecho en Mexico is offering a two-week celebration of $5 tacos and $15 margaritas from 12 June.

It’s also the only venue in Sydney where you will find three varieties of Rosa Cienfuegos’ signature tamales. In an exclusive partnership with the venue, Rosa has curated two savoury and one sweet variety of tamales.

You’ll find Hecho en Mexico at 480 King St, Newtown, with another venue launching in Lane Cove at the end of June.
