Australia’s most awarded sparkling wine producer, House of Arras, has unveiled its annual 2025 Vintage
Collection.
It marks the Tasmanian winery’s 30th anniversary of its inception in 1995 under the leadership of celebrated Chief Winemaker Ed Carr.
All the wines are bottle fermented and Carr’s signature extended lees ageing which has become synonymous with the House of Arras style and benchmarked Australian sparkling to a new standard.
The 2025 Vintage Collection includes the new House of Arras Grand Vintage 2017, House of Arras Blanc de Blancs 2017, and House of Arras Vintage Rosé 2017.
To commemorate its 30th anniversary year, the 2025 Vintage Collection also features the E.J Carr Late Disgorged Special Release 2006. This limited release of 1566 bottles with a deep ocean green colourway and detailing, this sparkling is described by the winery as an exemplary expression of the House of Arras style through its almost two decades spent on tirage.
Carr said: “The Vintage Collection is always a wonderful occasion to acknowledge the work we do at House of Arras to craft exquisite sparkling wine that is reflective of the cool, maritime setting of our home in Tasmania.
“For this celebration to coincide with our 30th anniversary just adds to the immense feeling of pride and gratitude I have for our entire team and those who have supported us throughout the House of Arras story.”
The 2025 House of Arras Vintage Collection is a showcase of the 2017 vintage which has been noted as a hallmark Tasmanian season.
“The 2017 vintage in Tasmania is noted as one of the best in recent times due to its cool conditions and persistent sunshine,” Carr said.
“The vintage started off very wet and cool until about early February when conditions began to warm. This slow, cool period provided the perfect conditions for great fruit development which was then complemented with dry and warm conditions for ideal ripening and flavour retention.
“The wines from 2017 are a reflection of these wonderful conditions with these sparkling wines displaying excellent fruit intensity, concentration and linear freshness. This is a vintage that will be regarded as one of the greats for Tasmania, and I am excited to showcase this exquisite year through these wines of great elegance and depth.”
To commemorate the 30th anniversary, Carr disgorged a limited number of the E.J Carr Late Disgorged Special Edition 2006 which is House of Arras’ flagship wine that is the epitome of refinement and elegance.
Hand-harvested Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes were gently pressed with only the best ‘heart’ juice utilised. After primary fermentation the base wines underwent a full malolactic fermentation to soften the acidity and build complexity. The wines were then blended. Under Carr’s signature method, the sparkling then spent an incredible 16 years in tirage to result in a sparkling possessing the intensity and finesse of the world’s finest cuvées.
“The E.J Carr Late Disgorged Special Edition 2006 is a sparkling wine that perfectly sums up our approach to winemaking here at House of Arras. Utilising only the highest quality Tasmanian fruit, diligent winemaking and reverence of the value of time sees a sparkling wine of great maturity and complexity but with the vibrancy and elegance akin to the finest sparkling expressions,” said Carr.
“The 2006 vintage in Tasmania is a very memorable one which sets the perfect base for this very special sparkling wine. Early, above-average rainfall in winter provided nutrient-rich soils for the growing season which was then followed by ideal warm, dry conditions for the rest of the harvest. The result being wines of outstanding character.”
The House of Arras 2025 Vintage Collection is available from the House of Arras Cellar Door, www.houseofarras.com.au, Dan Murphy’s and Australia’s fine wine retailers.
