The Macallan will bring its creative partnership with pioneering graphic designer David Carson to Sydney next month, transforming ARTSPACE in Woolloomooloo into an immersive, museum-scale experience.

Located within Sydney’s historic Gunnery building, ARTSPACE provides a distinctive backdrop for the experience. Its raw industrial character, expansive galleries will provide a setting in which The Macallan and Carson’s worlds converge, transforming the venue into a canvas for storytelling, cultural conversation and guest discovery.

The creative partnership between The Macallan and Carson began in 2020 and reached a significant milestone in 2025 with his reimagining of The Macallan’s Double Cask and Sherry Oak collections.

Carson is recognised as one of the most influential graphic designers of the modern era, with a practice rooted in instinct, experimentation and an uncompromising approach to creative expression. The distiller said this philosophy reflected its own pursuit of mastery, where patience, intuition and craftsmanship converge to create something distinctive.

Carson said: “There is no magic answer. At some point, you have to trust your gut”. It is this shared instinct that sits at the heart of In The Studio, inviting guests to look beyond the finished expression and discover the layers of thought, experimentation and craft that reveal themselves over time.

At the centre of the experience, a series of layered artworks and hero motion works interpret the textures, rituals and precision behind Carson’s creative approach and its affinity with The Macallan’s whisky making philosophy. Select expressions from The Macallan’s Double Cask and Sherry Oak collections will be displayed alongside Carson’s original artworks.

For guests seeking a deeper exploration, intimate masterclasses will offer insight into the elements that define The Macallan, including exceptional oak casks, sherry seasoning, natural colour, small stills, The Estate and the patience inherent to the whisky-making process.

Available as an optional add-on to General Admission, the masterclasses are limited to 20 guests per session and led by Whisky Maker, Diane Stuart. The experience unfolds as a guided sensory journey rather than a traditional tasting, pairing a curated flight of whiskies with tactile oak samples, aroma studies, archival imagery and layered storytelling. 

The Macallan x David Carson: In The Studio will take place from September 10-12, with the experience opening to the public from September 11. General Admission to the experience is complimentary, with Masterclass tickets available from $38.
