Jose Cuervo is launching Sparkling Margaritas in cans this month, formulated specially for the Australian market.

The premix offering is a first-of-its-kind drink, featuring Jose Cuervo, lime juice, triple sec and a lightly sparkling finish.

“We saw an opportunity to create a drink that gave Australian drinkers exactly what they were telling us they were looking for – a refreshing, convenient and flavourful serve that matches well with food and is perfect for socialising – especially now when we’re all moving into a summer full of outdoor fun,” said Hayley Dixon, Spirits Specialist at Proximo Spirits.

“So, it was a no-brainer for us to develop a Sparkling Margarita serve here in Australia that really suits the Australian palate.”

A convenient version of one of Australia’s most beloved cocktails, the spritz can be enjoyed straight from the can or poured over ice. The release is a smart move, given how much Australians love their Margaritas. During the lockdowns of 2020, Margarita was the second most Googled cocktail recipe in Australia.

“Our Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix is flying off shelves all around the country,” Dixon said. “People love the refreshing, citrus-driven flavours of a classic Margarita, and it automatically makes them think of the colourful vibrancy of Mexico – it’s an
easy way to evoke all those overseas holidays we’re missing so much.

“So, the Sparkling Margarita is a natural progression from that – it’s a spritz style serve with all the classic Margarita flavours, in a refreshing, convenient can.”

Tequila sales are booming around the world, including Australia. According to Dixon, Silver Tequila has been particularly popular with consumers over the past 12 months.

“White spirits drinkers are switching into the agave category from vodka and gin,” she said. “They’re looking for the next big flavourful spirit to add to their regular drinking repertoire and they’re finding that in tequila, and in Jose Cuervo.

Jose Cuervo Sparkling Margarita is available in quick-chill 330ml cans, with an RRP of $25 for a four-pack. The premix will be stocked nationwide in all good wholesalers including ALM and ILG.
