Australia triumphs at World Gin Awards 2024

Icons of Gin and World Gin Awards 2024, plus new Gin Hall of Fame inductees, have been announced at gala dinner hosted by Gin Magazine in London, with Australia sweeping a slew of awards and accolades.

Four Pillars took out World’s Best Old Tom Gin, Production Team of the Year, Sustainability Officer of the Year (Michelle Hall) and Visitor Attraction Manager of the Year (Scott Gauld), Four Pillars Distillery.

Meanwhile, Four Pillars Co-founder and Head Distiller, Cameron Mackenzie, was inducted into the Gin Hall of Fame, becoming only the second Australian, and 20th person in history, inducted into the industry’s most prestigious realm.

The induction at the World Gin Awards comes at the end of the first decade of Four Pillars that has seen MacKenzie named Master Distiller of the Year (2023) and Four Pillars named International Gin Producer of the Year by the IWSC a record-breaking three times (2019, 2020, 2023).

As Head Distiller, Cameron has been responsible for the range of Four Pillars category-defining gins that have been awarded Best in Category eight times, along with 17 Global Gin Masters, and countless trophies, Double Gold and Gold medals at competitions around the world.

“Well this is quite something, isn’t it,” a clearly delighted Mackenzie said from London. “I gave up my Taylor Swift tickets to make the journey to these awards so thank goodness it was worth the trip …

“In all seriousness, this is a marvellous tribute to the work of everyone who has been involved in Four Pillars across the ten years we have been making gin. And it just goes to show that Aussie gin is now recognised clearly as amongst the best in the world.”

World’s Best Flavoured Gin

Barossa Distilling Co took out World Best Flavoured Gin at the awards for its Barossa Shiraz Gin.

Barossa Distilling Co. Founder Neil Bullock said: “Receiving an honour of this magnitude from such a prestigious competition is a massive source of pride and a recognition of the hard work and dedication of the whole team.

“With access to the best Shiraz grapes in the world and seven vintages of refining this gin, we have got it spot on and are very grateful for the recognition of the expert panel at the World Gin Awards.”

Barossa Shiraz Gin is produced just once a year from the same super-intense Shiraz grapes revered across the globe. It is a small-scale, hands-on, and time-consuming process that spans over 10 weeks. The result is a gin with an inky depth and incredible richness, perfect for sipping neat or enjoying in a cocktail.

Archie Rose Bar & Cellar Door secured the trophy of Visitor Attraction of the Year under the Icons of Gin pillar at the prestigious awards night.

The win recognised Archie Rose Bar & Cellar Door as a venue that excels in informing, educating and entertaining consumers.
