The suburbs that drank the most Champagne in 2024

People in the Sydney’s Double Bay purchased more Champagne last year than any other suburbs in Australia according to Endeavour Group data.

Dan Murphy’s Managing Director Agi Pfeiffer-Smith told The Sydney Morning Herald that its customers were splashing out on Champagne throughout the year.

“We have been seeing more of a move to champagne and sparkling being consumed all year round, however the biggest increase in sales still remains around key events such as Christmas,” she said.

When they’re not buying it from Double Bay bottle shops, residents and visitors are sipping Champagne in the suburb’s wine bars and restaurants.

Bibo wine bar owner Jonathan Mallet told the SMH that a non-vintage Taittinger was his bestseller last year, but he also sold a lot of a 2014 Louis Roederer.

“Obviously people like the big brands but some of our guests are very knowledgeable,” he said.

Willoughby and Mosman were the next biggest Champagne fans in NSW according to Endeavour Group, which compiled the data from online orders and hundreds of its stores.

According to Endeavour Group data released in August 2024 the top suburbs across Australia for bubbly sales are:

  • 2028 (Sydney – Double Bay)
  • 3181 (Melbourne – Prahran/Windsor)
  • 4007 (Brisbane – Ascot, Hamilton)
  • 6010 (Perth – Claremont, Mount Claremont, Swanbourne)
  • 5064 (Adelaide – Glen Osmond, Glenunga, Myrtle Bank, Saint Georges, Urrbrae, Mount Osmond)
  • 7008 (Hobart – New Town, Lenah Valley)
